53 illegal immigrants held against will in Phoenix PHOENIX – Arizona authorities on Sunday found 53 illegal immigrants in a Phoenix home being held against their will by suspected smugglers demanding more money for their release.
The group of rescued immigrants included two 13-year-old girls and a mentally disabled man. There were three women, and the rest were men, said Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Harold Sanders.
Sanders said the investigation began Saturday after authorities received information that the immigrants were being held with force against their will, and that smugglers wanted an average of $2,500 for each person.
The investigation led to the arrest of three suspected smugglers at a Phoenix hotel.
After detectives learned the location of the immigrants in a southwest Phoenix home, they found the 53 immigrants and arrested two more suspected smugglers.
Sanders said the single-family home had been fortified to prevent escape. Several firearms were seized at the home. Arizona's efforts to eliminate the importation of illegal immigrants the same way it eliminated the importation of illegal drugs in the state - via making things inconvenient and expensive for the law abiding - seems to be working enormously well. The immigrants no longer want to come and so the street price is up to $2,500 per! Or wait, I may be misunderstanding something about this story. |

Tonight's event: Furverted @ Bench and Bar, Oakland We're going to try this one again. Last time we went, it was a no-show for just about everyone. I think five people showed, including our crowd and the employees. Lol. But I did get that awesome sticker during that trip to Oakland: I love the other sticker about how they do not make change. If you wanna go, here's the site w/ directions/location: http://www.bench-and-bar.com/Real close to 19th St Oakland BART! No excuses to NOT go. |

food boog was going to take me to TGI friday's for lunch today because of my unealthy obsession with their green bean fries. today was probably not the best day to go to TGI friday's, so we hit the farmers market instead and i made my own at home. i used multi grain bread for the crumbs, and the sauce consisted of wasabi, cucumber, garlic, and mayo. also, a salmon cake that got a bit too done, because i could not possibly have enough fried food here. i am working out extra tonight. |

Good morning! Last night in Walnut Creek was fun! I have found myself in San Jose at asphaltwanderer's place. We were enjoying ourselves way too much to allow myself back into San Francisco. I am now on track for a 12PM Caltrain back to the city. 1 hour 35 minutes. My phone battery is approaching death because I haven't charged it. Your friends page will have a break today from my incessant photo posts. And now it is time for an image from spaceghetto to satisfy all of you until my phone charges: |
